Climate Risk Reduction in Aquaculture

Similarly to crops, fish grow better in the right weather conditions. On the contrary, adverse weather events hamper the growth of fish, hence bringing forth risks for fish farmers. However, for many farmers, are unbeknowst to this "risk" brought about by unfavourable weather conditions. Risks from weather events can be minimized if the right decisions are made based on the weather forecast and considering the existing context of the ponds. The type and magnitude of the risk will vary from pond to pond even during the same weather event. This video provide a general guide on how to reduce climate related risk in aquaculture. This video is made through a collaboration between USAID and WorldFish for the 'Feed the Future' initiative.
